Settlement Club Garage Sale Huge Success!
The theme for the 2011 Settlement Home Charity Garage Sale was “Thrifty is the New Black!” and many shoppers seemed to agree! The Settlement Home announced this week that the event raised $507,904.
The Sale, held November 3-6 at Palmer Events Center, was the culmination of a year’s worth of work collecting, sorting and pricing donated merchandise. Volunteers with The Settlement Club, along with volunteers from area businesses and the community, set
up and worked the entire four-day event. Thousands of items from 20 departments were sold to more than 20,000 shoppers. The event was led by Garage Sale Co-Chairs Michele Brocato and Margaret Scott.
In addition to raising funds for The Settlement Home, the Charity Garage Sale helped the Austin community through the Giving for Living Program. This program provides vouchers to area non-profits who give them to their clients. This year, 233 participants received $25 vouchers to use for shopping at the Garage Sale on Sunday. This program allows those in need to get important and necessary items, such as clothing, baby clothes, kitchen items, etc.
Funds raised by the sale help provide programs and services to abused and neglected children, such as medical services, education and recreational programs.
